Address Validation Disruption: What It Means and How to Move Forward

In mid-2025, several teams began reporting issues with our Address Validation for Dataverse / D365 tools — specifically, the autocomplete and suggestion features stopped functioning across environments using Bing Maps as the address validation API. The root cause of this issue is expiration or deprecation of Bing Maps API keys associated with free accounts.

Why This Is Happening

Microsoft announced in 2024 a strategic shift in its enterprise mapping services, marking the retirement of Bing Maps Enterprise for non-paying users. Free Bing Maps keys were deprecated around June 2025, while Enterprise keys will remain active until June 2028.

This change is part of Microsoft’s broader vision to modernize its geospatial offerings. The company is investing in next-generation mapping platforms that are more scalable, secure, and intelligent—primarily through Azure Maps and AI-powered services.

Recommended Actions

If your address validation tool has stopped working, here are the steps to take:

  1. Verify Your Bing Maps Key StatusVisit the https://www.bingmapsportal.com/ to confirm whether your key is still active. If it’s a free key, it has likely been deprecated.

  2. Switch to Supported Alternatives. Consider transitioning to:

    • Google Maps Control – Offers high accuracy and familiar formatting.

    • Azure Maps Control – Seamlessly integrates with Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem.

Both options are supported and available for most subscribers of Bing Maps:

Looking Ahead

We are working on future updates that will bring additional investments into Google Maps and Azure Maps, adding features and/or covering more use cases. Look out for a blog post later this year on this topic.
